JR Summer Internships – The Conclusion

This summer, JJR marketing, was thrilled to create an eight-week marketing course for students and professionals interested in marketing and public relations. We had interns that range from current college students, recent college graduates, and professionals who are well into their careers.

The interns were able to assist us with real-life client projects, as well as follow an eight week outline of projects to be sure they got an idea of all aspects in the industry.

Our eight-week course covers general marketing, public relations, content creation, design, integrated marketing campaigns, social media marketing, event planning and more.

Our intern’s final assignment was to write a blog about their experience, read below what they had to say…

Eliana M – Summer 2020

This summer, I had the honor of interning for JJR Marketing. The program lasted eight weeks, and each week the interns were given a different assignment, often pertaining to JJR’s current clients. My assigned client was the Chicago branch of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO Chicago).

It was incredible to know that the work I was doing could actually benefit a real client. Even though I wasn’t working directly with NAWBO, I knew that the content and strategies I created could potentially be implemented with them in the future.

I enjoyed the specific assignments and projects that I worked on. I learned how to create a media kit and press release, how to implement a social media marketing campaign, and how to plan and advertise a complex event. I am grateful for what I’ve learned this summer at JJR and can’t wait to see where it takes me!

This internship provided me with a more thorough understanding of what marketing actually is. I learned the five types of marketing and became an expert at applying each one to a client’s needs. This is a skill that I can utilize in my marketing work through other avenues in the future.

Mark L – Summer 2020

This summer I was able to take part in a virtual internship with JJR Marketing. I was given the opportunity by Jacqueline Camacho, founder of JJR Marketing, to expand my knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of marketing and real-world experience. There were so many high points but my favorite experience was learning how to connect the creative brief to the integrated marketing plan. I felt that this skill and seeing this unfold really will help me as I look to transfer into the marketing world. Being able to speak to actual experience is extremely help and I have learned so much. I learned about Public Relations, how that process is part of an integrated marketing plan and how to plan events. Those skills will be helpful as I learn more about marketing and progress in my career.

JJR Marketing has really helped open my eyes to experiences and how to approach problems in different ways. I have really found what I enjoy and what are my strengths and what I need to learn more about and work on. I have thoroughly enjoyed working on projects and presenting what I can do in front of my peers. It gives me confidence to continue pushing forward.

Take Flight!

Olivia C . – Summer 2020

I am extremely grateful for my time as a Marketing Intern at JJR Marketing this summer. From learning PR vocabulary terms to creating creative briefs for real customers of JJR Marketing, I feel like I was immersed in the real workforce and learned through hands-on experience. My favorite thing I learned over my summer was creating an entire PR campaign for the company I was working with this summer.

I believe that the work that I completed over my internship can help me in the real world because I am interested in pursuing marketing, and the experience I gained was work that marketers do everyday. It gave me a real idea of what my future could look like. I also was able to develop strategies and create projects for real clients that made the work more interesting to know that I could help another company with their marketing. From this internship, I am taking away real-world experience, a better understanding of PR and Marketing, and growth in my abilities to create campaigns from start to finish. Thank you JJR Marketing and Kylie for an awesome and educational Summer!

Mary Cate V. – Summer 2020

First off I feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with such a strong company like JJR Marketing for my first internship. It was a great first step into the real-world of marketing. Each week the projects challenged me and taught me life-long marketing skills. After the 8 weeks I feel well equipped with the knowledge the JJR team has left me with.

I have gained so much from this opportunity — from simply just being on the zoom calls with the JJR team I picked up terms and ideas I didn’t know. Each member of the team provided insightful advice. Then our weekly projects gave me a much more in-depth and real-world experience within a marketing company. I definitely gained a whole new perspective and respect for all the hard work marketers truly do.

My favorite part was working with a real client to help create a strong marketing campaign for them. I loved knowing that my work could help these clients – writing the creative brief and the PR campaign in week 2 were my favorite parts to work on. This internship has given me confidence in my ability to create a campaign from beginning to end.

Thank you JJR Marketing, Kylie, and Jacqueline for this opportunity to learn from you all. I loved the set up of the internship with the weekly projects — each week taught me valuable information.
