Latinas in Aviation
The Movement:
Latinas In Aviation was a “Divine Download” that came to JJR & Fig Factor Media CEO, Jacqueline Ruiz, in 2020. Jacqueline’s unique combination of love for marketing, books, and aviation created the perfect storm for the idea of Latinas In Aviation. Jacqueline knew that Latinas made up only 2% of the aviation population and they had a story worth telling.
Through her fellow aviation connections, Jackie was able to find 22 inspirational Latinas in Aviation to co-author the first ever LIA anthology book. The authors included ranged from NASA engineers and commercial & military pilots, to those working within the industry as well, such as architects and aircraft mechanics. From then, the search for Vol. 2 authors came naturally. Due to the impact that the first volume had and in partnership with College Park Aviation Museum and Field of Firsts Foundation, another 14 aviation experts joined the LIA sisterhood as they became authors of Latinas in Aviation Vol. 2: Maryland Edition.
Now taking applications for Vol. 3 of LIA, Latinas In Aviation is proud to be an inspiration for Latinas around the world.
Since the launch of Volume 1, Latinas in Aviation has:
- Shared the stories of over 36 authors
- Gathered more than 4k social followers
- Provided 2 National/International Scholarships with a total of $7,000
- Created the Latinas in Aviation Magazine
- Hosted 2 Global Festivals at the College Aviation Museum in College Park, MD
